A place worth knowing

Let one museum set the pace. The permanent collection offers an approachable starting point for a day with art: admission is free for individual visitors, without an advance reservation. Some rooms may close, so leave room for an unexpected detour.

The regular hours below cover the permanent collection. Thursday evening openings apply to temporary exhibitions only, and those have their own tickets. Rooms begin closing before the advertised end of the day. The cover photograph shows the museum’s exterior in 2006. This introduction is based on the museum’s published visitor information.
