A place worth knowing

Make room for the temple as a place of worship. Step out of the flow of visitors when you want to look, keep entrances clear, and follow the signs and guidance on site.

Temple admission is free; food, shopping and other purchases are optional extras. The main hall opens 06:00–17:00 from April to September and 06:30–17:00 from October to March. Shops along the approach have their own hours. Our cover shows a rainy visit in 2019: you do not need a perfect-weather day to enjoy the architecture. Start from Asakusa station and let the surrounding streets be a separate part of the outing.
